Increase your torrent speeds with Toro's Speed Calculator

Speed Test

First we need to determine what your upload and download speeds are. To do that we have incorporated a mini speed test from Speedtest.net into this page. Simply click on the "Begin Speed Test" link and the speed tester will do the rest. When you get the results, enter them into the fields below the tester.

Speed Test requires at least version 8 of Flash. Please update your client to view this mini speed tester.

Calculate Optimal Torrent Speeds:

Please enter the results of the test above into the boxes below. If you have already done a speed test somewhere else, please ensure that the numbers you enter here are kilobits and NOT kilobytes.

Download Speed:
Upload Speed:

Your speed:

Please note that there is a difference between kilobits and kilobytes (1 kilobyte = 8 kilobits). If you have a download speed of 100 kilobits per second, you can actually download only 12.5 kilobytes per second.

Kilobits Kilobytes
Upload: N/A Upload: N/A
Download: N/A Download: N/A

Optimal speed settings for your torrent:

Now we need to set up your torrent client to use these settings and speeds. Open µTorrent, select Options -> Preferences (Ctrl+P) and select the Bandwidth Options. Now enter the following numbers into the appropriate fields and press "Ok".

Option Kilobytes
Maximum upload rate: N/A
Maximum download rate: N/A
Global(Max) number of connected peers per torrent: N/A
(Max) Number of upload slots per torrent: N/A

How will these optimal speed settings increase torrent speed?

By capping (limiting) your upload and download speeds to 95% and 80% respectively you don't overload the upload and download capability of your internet connection. If your internet connection is not being strained, it can give more speed to the torrent.

The Global(Max) number of connected peers per torrent is how many people you can connect with per torrent. Too many and it will flood and slow down your torrent, too little and it won’t download at its full speed.

(Max) Number of upload slots per torrent determines how many people can upload from you at once. If too many people upload from you at once, your download speed decreases. You can, however, use additional upload slots if your upload speed is less than 90%.

The combination of the results from this calculator, port-forwarding, disabling Windows Firewall, and adding more trackers should speed up torrents by at least 90%
