What is a tracker?

A tracker is a server on the internet which coordinates the communication between peers, it's critical because clients are required to communicate with the tracker to initiate downloads.

How does it work?

The tracker updates constantly to check up on your torrent and what you’re doing with it (how much have you downloaded/uploaded, how far to go before you're finished, did you pause, stop or resume?). If a tracker is down, you won't be able to connect to it. When a tracker goes down in the middle of your download, you will still be able to communicate with peers but no new peers can join the tracker. When a tracker downs, it's usually just a temporary error and it will simply keep trying to connect you to it until it succeeds so it's a good idea to just leave µTorrent open.

Why should I use it?

Adding public trackers to your torrent when creating it, will ensure better speeds and availability. This public tracker list does not have as many as the massive tracker lists out there but it does not need to update as much and consists of very popular trackers with thousands of seeds and peers. This list is updated constantly to keep it fresh so check back again soon.
